For instance, high-grade open tibial fractures often necessitate an ortho-plastic approach, which combines expertise in orthopaedics and plastic surgery. To reconstruct these complex injuries and prevent amputation, advanced external fixation methods like the hexapod circular external fixation system are employed.

Pilon and plateau fractures of the tibia present another set of challenges. Preserving joint function and mitigating complications such as bone infection and osteoarthritis requires a structured and meticulously planned approach.
