Musculoskeletal trauma surgery encompasses the following aspects:
Fractures
Injuries affecting bones, joints, and surrounding muscles are common and can vary in severity. Some can be managed conservatively with rest, pain relief, and splinting, while others may require surgery. I specialise in choosing the right treatment strategy to restore maximum function swiftly, with a strong emphasis on pain management.
Dislocations
Joint trauma can lead to dislocation, where the joint’s alignment is disrupted, commonly seen in the shoulder, fingers, toes, and patella. Ankle dislocations often accompany fractures, as can occur in the elbow and hip. Management entails swift joint realignment, and sometimes, specialised surgery is needed for post-realignment stabilisation.
Muscle / Tendon injuries
Muscles and tendons are integral to movement and joint function but are susceptible to injury. While conservative treatments suffice for many cases, surgical intervention is essential in specific situations to ensure complete repair and restore muscle strength and stability. I am dedicated to offering personalised solutions, whether through non-surgical or specialised surgical approaches, to achieve the best outcomes for every patient’s recovery, enhancing movement and function.
Ligament Injuries
Ligament injuries, frequently associated with sports and traumatic events, particularly affect ankle ligaments in high-level athletes. Swift, precise assessment and management are essential for optimal recovery. My approach involves rapid evaluation, effective treatment, and a multidisciplinary rehabilitation approach, expediting patients’ return to peak functionality.
Collaborating with experienced physiotherapists and biokineticists, we tailor return-to-play strategies to individual needs, aiming for restored strength and agility to enhance performance.
